Dogs Have Owners, Cats Have Staff

When people distinguish themselves as "dog people," or "cat people," I have always held in my mind that this drew a bright line of distinction between the two types of creatures and the characteristics of the types of people who seem to prefer one over the other. A big, thick, bright line, not like a more fuzzy, unintelligible line between say, "yorkie" people and "Silkie" people or "Newfoundland" people and "St. Bernard" people.

Cats are independent. Resourceful. Mercurial. Regal. Elegant. Serene. Inscrutable. Playful. Aloof. Reserved. Circumspect.

I had not appreciated their need to be cradled and carried around like an infant.

I just wanted a little help with the field mice population around these parts. How lucky we are to have found a cat who is a lover, not a fighter.
